Ink Circles - Anatolia
The pattern bands on this sampler were inspired by the many antique carpets found in centuries-old mosques in Anatolia, the Asian portion of modern day Turkey. Some carpets dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries have been remarkably well preserved because of the practice of layering newly donated carpets atop them on the mosque floors. Many of these carpets have found their way into museums where they can be enjoyed by admirers. This sampler is true to the original carpet patterns in that motif colors and shape sometimes change subtly as they are repeated. The use of overdyed threads in this sampler also mimics the color changes that are seen in the original carpets.
